AT&T Stores Buy Back & Trade In Your Old iPhones

I heard a rumor that AT&T Stores have an iPhone buyback program for upgrades. Basically, they take your old iPhone as a trade-in and give you a discount on your new iPhone 4S. And they’re giving incredible amounts of cash for old iPhones… Sounds too good to be true, right?
I still can’t find anything about the buy back program on the AT&T website, but that doesn’t matter anymore:
Update: Here’s the details of the AT&T trade in program as listed on the AT&T website:
Trade-in Service – FlipSwap’s, a global leader in consumer electronics buyback programs, provides a trade-in service that is available in all AT&T company owned retail stores; allowing AT&T customers to turn in old wireless phones and receive an AT&T promotional card or donate the value to Cell Phone for Soldiers charity, reflective of the device’s trade-in value and condition, as determined by FlipSwap. Customers can use the card to offset the cost of some of the latest wireless devices or the purchase of other AT&T products and services. All phones – regardless of manufacturer or date purchased – will be considered for trade-in. Details on trade-in service.
AT&T Buy Back Program : Confirmed!
My brother went to the AT&T store today, traded in his iPhone 3GS – and get this – they gave him $170 credit towards his upgrade to the new iPhone 4S. He only paid $30 for the new iPhone, thanks to the ridiculous trade-in value… Notice that’s the 3GS too. He paid $199 for it over two years ago – and just got $170 for it. Which means an iPhone 4 will probably be worth even more when you trade it in… Insane.
If you want to trade-in your iPhone, remember the iPhone sold over 4 million units in 3 days – so expect the supply to be limited. Last I heard, the 64GB version was the only iPhone left in stock. Also, this appears to be an in-person deal only (not available online) – you have to go to a store.
Don’t think this info is valid. I checked at the store and they declined.
I’m calling shanagins too…
Updated the post with details on the program.
I was not offered a buy back when I purchased my new 4S. The battery life on the new 4S sucks big time even with all apps etc closed out. This is simply not acceptable from Apple, then they want another $29 to replace a phone that is 5 weeks old.
My friend traded in her 3g (not 3gs) at AT&T and got $80 for it. They didn’t offer to take it off the price of her new 4 but she got a check in the mail.
I worked for AT&T and yes there is a buy back program. It’s not instant but it takes a few weeks for the check to come in the mail. Another thing to keep in mind is that the AT&T reps work on commission and that they don’t get paid for this. It takes between 20 – 30 minutes to complete the process…and in that time they could miss out on money and that’s why they may not inform you about it.
